The LifeGel Digestion Kit allows the quick and gentle release of single cells grown on LifeGel while preserving the highest-possible yield. The kit (4 x 4 mL) is ready to use and sufficient for digestion of a 48-well or 96-well plate.

  • The main task of 3D culturing is to prepare cells for further biochemical, molecular or imaging analyses. In standard 2D culturing, trypsin is the most commonly used enzyme for the recovery of cultured cells – the enzyme cleans the surface proteins, which then allows the cells to become detached from the substrate and go into suspension.


  •  The Digestion Kit is a set of enzymes used to release cells cultured on LifeGel.  Carefully selected combinations of enzymes digest the hydrogel as well as the protein connections between cells, enabling single cells to be recovered. In contrast to classically used trypsin, these enzymes do not digest the membrane proteins necessary for the proper functioning of the cell, so the kit is therefore more gentle on cells. The released cells can then be used in further experiments such as gene or protein expression analyses, or they can be re-seeded for further culturing.


  • The Digestion Kit contains four 4 mL vials (16 mL in total) containing appropriate enzymes that when added to the LifeGel (in a 1:1 ratio) release cells for further experiments. In general, 16 mL of enzymes are sufficient to digest one culture plate of LifeGel.
